The New ‘Jumanji’ Movie Starts Filming in November

Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are reprising their roles in the film, which Jake Kasdan will direct again. The movie is scheduled to be released on December 11, 2026. Joining the cast is Brittany O’Grady, who is probably most recognized for co-starring in the first season of The White Lotus on HBO. Another new addition to the cast is Burn Gorman, who is known for roles in films like Beetlejuice and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Matt Tolmach, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Jake Kasdan are producing the film, which moved quickly into production after being quietly developed and recently receiving the greenlight.

Jumanji Movie Earnings Attract Attention

While plot details are being kept under wraps, it is confirmed that Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg wrote the script. The film Jumanji is said to be based on Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 picture book, featuring an enchanted board game that springs to life. The 1995 Sony film, which starred Robin Williams, was primarily inspired by this concept. In 2017, Jumanji was reimagined with Welcome to the Jungle, modernizing the board game into a video game and featuring four teens trapped in adult avatars, portrayed by Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillan. The film earned $962.5 million globally, effectively kickstarting a full-fledged franchise. The 2019 sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, earned $800 million at the worldwide box office.

Jumanji Is The Fouth In The Franchise

From one viewpoint, the new movie is the fourth in the franchise because the 2017 film ties back to the Williams classic; from another, it’s the third in the Johnson-era reboot. Returning cast members include Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blaine, and Morgan Turner as their real-world characters, along with Awkwafina from the previous 2019 film. Details regarding the roles of O’Grady and Gorman have not been disclosed. In addition to her role in The White Lotus, O’Grady joins the ensemble cast of Kathryn Bigelow’s new dramatic film A House of Dynamite, set to debut on Netflix October 24.
