A new piece of news from South Korea strengthens this claim. The claims about Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S26 series, just don’t stop. The Standard and Plus models won’t go into production until January.
According to The Elec, Samsung will start producing the Ultra model, which is the top version of the Galaxy S26 series, in December. Production of the other models is planned to start in January, following the completion of the Plus model that was developed instead of the Edge. The company’s initial goal was to begin mass production of the three models in December.
Canceling The S26 Edge Led To The Delay
According to the source, the series may hit the market slightly later compared to last year because of these delays. Reports say the reason for the delay is that the development of the Edge model was halted.
After the Galaxy S25 Edge’s weak sales, the company gave up on the S26 Edge and decided to reintroduce the Plus model to the lineup. Due to the plan change, Samsung had to develop the Galaxy S26 Plus model again.
Although the development of the Standard and Ultra models has been completed, finishing the development of the Plus model will take another one or two months. Therefore, production will start with the Ultra model.

As one industry representative stated, Samsung’s limited production capacity makes starting with the Ultra model that is expected to represent more than half of total sales which are the most practical choice.
A Prominent Feature Of OLED Panels
Even though the Standard model is ready, it’s believed that production was planned to start at the same time as the Plus model to improve production line efficiency. This method is particularly noticeable in OLED panels. Samsung usually uses the same OLED screen in both the Standard and Plus models of the Galaxy S series. Several other parts are also alike.
The production timeline for components changes according to the part type. It’s anticipated that production of some components for all three models will start around the end of October or in November, but Plus model–specific parts will begin production in December. Before production begins, the product development process and reliability tests must be completed.
