For anyone who loves science fiction and wants a new series that takes you beyond everyday life and into different dimensions, we’ve got something for you. Meet Future Man, a series praised by viewers as “the greatest sci-fi show nobody knows about,” with fans eager to spread the word. And now you can decide for yourself whether it deserves that reputation, since the entire series is available to watch on Netflix. Running for three seasons, Future Man debuted in 2017 and follows a not-so-successful janitor who suddenly finds himself chosen to rescue humanity. Typical, right?
Future Man Series Blends Science Fiction with Comedy
This American action series mixes sci-fi with comedy, and features Hollywood heavyweight Seth Rogen as an executive producer, working alongside his longtime friend and renowned writer Evan Goldberg. When it comes to the actors, there’s no shortage of appealing names. Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games fame heads the lineup as Josh Futturman, a cleaner at a cutting-edge research lab who remains at home with his parents and is drifting through life without ambition.

All of that changes, naturally, once he’s recruited. After becoming the first person ever to beat the final level of the supposedly impossible video game Biotic Wars, Josh is suddenly visited that same night by two of its main characters, Tiger (Eliza Coupe) and Wolf (Derek Wilson). They appear through time travel and inform him that they need his help to fight in their war. What comes next is a whirlwind of time-hopping for ordinary Josh, as he confronts the actual Biotic Wars and tries to rewrite the future… and save humanity. The show also features a strong supporting cast, including Seth Rogen, Ed Begley Jr., Keith David, Glenne Headly, Haley Joel Osment, Britt Lower, and Awkwafina.
Is The Future Man Series Any Good?
Future Man has earned strong praise from fans throughout its run, and many were heartbroken when season 3 turned out to be its final installment in 2020. On top of that, the entire series was pulled from Disney’s streaming platforms , including Hulu and Disney Plus, in May 2023 as part of budget cuts, making its arrival on Netflix even more exciting for longtime fans and first-time viewers alike. According to the review site Rotten Tomatoes, viewers have rated Future Man at a solid 83% overall, while critics score it even higher, coming in at an almost-perfect 91%. And it appears the series only improves as it goes on, with critics awarding season 2 a perfect 100% and declaring it impossible to make any better.

Among the reviews are numerous enthusiastic remarks, with many saying that Future Man “ticks every box” and is “filled” with action.
