The Melita New Era took home two awards at the 2019 Manitoba Community Newspaper Association’s (MCNA) annual Better Newspaper Competition awards night.
At the provincial event held last month in Winnipeg, the New Era was competing in the 0 - 1,399 circulation category with 14 papers, the largest number of papers in any circulation class. This made placing in the top three in two separate categories even more impressive.
All newspapers were asked to submit one edition from both the week of June 4 and November 5 in 2018. This would ensure the newspaper didn’t just submit what they deemed their best issues for 2018 but ones randomly selected by the MCNA.
The New Era received second place from the judges for Best Front Page and third place for Best Layout and Design.
“We are so very proud to have served this community since 1916 and thrilled to be recognized as one of the best among Manitoba’s community newspapers,” said Melita New Era Publisher Nancy Johnson.
The Flin Flon Reminder, who is also owned by the same company as the New Era, Glacier Media Group, won the overall General Excellence award in the same circulation class.
