ARRD After School Arts & Crafts Program

Our fall and winter programming is well underway with ARRD, and we still have a lot of exciting programs coming up in the next couple of months! We have been kept busy in the office getting ready for our move to Enns Brothers Place at the end of the month – the office was closed October 23 – 25 while we made the move, and you can find us at the new location (180 Townsend Drive) starting on October 28.

Buti-Yoga has been running steady for the last month and instructor Danielle Lewis has just started another round of classes. You can drop into this program for $12 – no pre-registration required.

We have started our Get Active! Fitness classes in Melita and Waskada – with 22 registered in Melita and 10 registered in Waskada. The last two weeks, Krystal Blackwell (Small Town Girl Fitness) has been instructing the classes and coming up, we will also have more classes with Krystal as well as Kickboxing with Kendra Custance, P90X and Drums Alive with Kim Houston, Zumba with Courtney Walker and Yoga with Lisa Bird! If you want to drop-in for one of these classes, call the recreation office at 204-522-8328.

We started our After-School Arts and Crafts program in Melita on Monday’s. This week, the participants created some Halloween themed paintings as well as got some free crafting time. Next week, we will be making some pom-pom rugs and then we will create some sand art! This program will also be held in Pierson on November 18, 25 and December 2. The cost is $45 and you must have your child registered by November 8.

We are still in need of a couple more students for our Red Cross Babysitters Course that will be held on Saturday, November 2, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Melita School Library. Students are asked to bring a bag lunch, snack, notebook and pen. Ages 12 and up can participate in this course, which is taught by Teena Bloomer and costs $75. Please register ASAP for this course.

Do you enjoy quilting? Would you like to join a quilting group that is for all level of quilting? Cotton Attics Quilting Group meets every second Thursday of the month. If you are interested, please call Gloria for more information at 204-522-3597.

ARRD will be holding a Paverpol session in Waskada on Sunday, November 24, at 3:00 p.m. (location TBA), where you will learn to make your own fairy house. This two-hour session is $60 and includes all supplies. Please register by November 15.

ARRD and Two Borders basketball are excited to offer open run basketball on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. for boys and girls ages 13 and up. This program is held at the Melita School Gym and there is no registration required.

Pierson Youth Rec Hockey will be starting up again at the Edward Sports Centre in November. This program is for boys and girls not involved in minor hockey, that will meet 10 times during the 2019-2020 season. Rec hockey is a non-competitive and fun program for kids who want to start hockey or for youth who still wants to be involved in hockey. This program is for kids ages 5-12 and is coached by Brad Caldwell. The dates for rec hockey are November 19, 26, December 3, 10, 17, January 7, 14, 21, 28 and February 4 at 7:00 p.m. Please register with ARRD by November 14.

A First Aid and CPR Course will be held on November 30 and December 1 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Melita School Library. The cost for the full course will be $165 and the recert course will be $100 (must show a Red Cross card with expiry date – not longer than three months expired). Register for this course by November 22.

Free adult volleyball has started at Waskada School Gym on Wednesday’s from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to participate. Free drop-in badminton started in Pierson this week and will continue until the Christmas break at the Pierson School Gym on Thursday’s at 7:00 p.m. Please wear clean indoor shoes to both of these programs!

Fun Time Pottery will be in Melita on Sunday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m. for some pottery painting fun. Cost will be $30 per participant. You will get to select a piece of pottery to paint, and the program is open to kids and adults. Please register with ARRD by November 5.

Kathleen Lagasse will be at the Pierson Library on Monday, November 18, 7:00 p.m., for a Dirty Pour class. Each participant will get a finished painting to take home with them. The cost for the course is $60. Please register by November 15. A second class will be held in Waskada (location TBA) on November 4 at 7:00 p.m. and will be Alcohol Inks. At this class you will learn how to make a painting using alcohol inks. The cost is $60 per participant. Please register by November 1.
