Appreciation evening held in Waskada

 Family and friends gathered to honour long-time residents John and Fran Dickinson of Waskada at an appreciation evening on Saturday, November 30. The evening was hosted by the United Church and emceed by Coral Meggison. A potluck supper to get things started was enjoyed by all.

  A program followed with a skit, “ A day in the life of John and Fran” performed by Sandy Stewart and Jim Smart.

It highlighted all the different hats that John and Fran have worn throughout their lives.

They received accolades from being volunteers in many different organizations. Fran was a 4-H leader and head leader, member of the W.I., U.C. Presbytery member, Fall Supper coordinator, Evening Circle home member, Church Board member, Southwest Farm Women’s Conference, Canasta player, Bridging Brenda history book, Devotions at the Lodge and PCH, Waskada Library Board and there was always a pail of cookies in the freezer, just in case. Fran always had a poem for every occasion and every bridal shower that was held in the church.

John was a curling member for 70 years, ball player, was a Councillor and Reeve of Brenda Municipality, turkey carver at many Fall Suppers, usher, did lawn care at the church plus after church coffee man, and U.C. treasurer for over 25 years, Church Board and Cornerstone Pastoral Charge Board member, Board member and fix-it man for Waskada Community Foods, helped build two curling rinks in the community and kept the volunteers fed when the new rink was being built. John and Fran loved square dancing plus attending all the families functions and have been strong supporters of all community functions.

  It was a wonderful evening full of reminiscing and laughter. A quilt ‘stitched with love’ was presented to John and Fran by the Waskada Quilters, Dawn Minne, Mary Dobroski and Gaylene Spence.
