We are getting ready at the ARRD office for a very busy fall and winter season of programming! Buti-Yoga has started in Melita on Monday evenings from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Strand Theatre (please use the back door). If you missed signing up for the full five weeks, don’t worry, you can still drop into the class for $12 – no pre-registration required. Buti-Yoga is taught by Danielle Lewis and is a combination of traditional yoga moves, tribal dance and plyometrics.

Hunter Safety and the Canadian Firearms Safety Course will be offered in Melita once again this year on October 19 & 20. The CFSC will be on Saturday, October 19 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Melita Parish Hall and will cost $110. The Hunter Safety Course will be held on Sunday, October 20 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Melita Parish Hall and will cost $70. Participants should bring a lunch to class. Ten and 11-year-olds taking the Hunter Safety Course will receive an apprentice card and may only hunt small game, grouse and ducks. When they turn 12, a full Hunter Safety card will be issued. Registration and payment for the class is due by October 4 to ARRD.

With the assistance of Prairie Mountain Health – Healthy Together Now, Antler River Recreation is very excited to announce our Get Active! Fitness classes coming this fall and winter. You can now sign up for this ten-session program, and once a week at 7:00 p.m. you will get to try a different fitness class like yoga, Zumba, kickboxing, boot camps and more! Melita session dates include Tuesday’s October 15, 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19, 26 and January 14, 21 and 28 and the location that the classes will be held in Melita will be announced at a later date. Pierson session dates will include October 16, 23, 30, November 6, 13, 20, 27 and January 15, 22 and 29. Pierson session locations will also be announced at a later date. Waskada sessions dates include October 17, 24, November 7, 14, 21, 28 and January 16, 23 and 30 and will take place at Waskada School Gym. The registration fee for this program is only $40 for all 10 sessions. Please register by October 8.

We will be holding an After School Arts & Crafts Program in Melita on Monday, October 21, 28 and November 4. Kids ages 6 and up can join ARRD after school from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. in Melita (exact location TBA) to make some fun arts and crafts including a pom pom rug, canvas painting and sand art. The cost for this program is $45, please register by October 8. This program will also be held in Pierson on November 18, 25 and December 2, please register by November 8.

The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course will be held on Saturday, November 2 from 9:00 a.m – 4:00 p.m. at Melita School Library. Students are asked to bring a bag lunch, snack, notebook, pen and baby doll. Ages 12 and up can participate in this course, which will be taught by Teena Bloomer and costs $75. Please register for this course by October 18.

Do you enjoy quilting? Would you like to join a quilting group that is for all levels of quiliting? Cotton Attics quilting group meets every second Thursday of the month. If you are interested, please call Gloria for more information 204-522-3597.

Galaxy Lanes and ARRD are teaming up to offer a one-month Youth Bowling League. Participants will bowl once per week after school on Tuesday’s from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. from November 5 – 26. Ages 6 and up are welcome to join this program, the cost is $35 and you must be registered by October 29.

ARRD will be holding two Paverpol sessions, the first being held in Pierson on Sunday, October 6, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Pierson Library. For this class you will be making a heron. Please bring with you two XL white shirts, a couple rolls of tin foil and a lunch. The cost of this session is $200. Please register by October 1. The other Paverpol session will be held in Waskada on Sunday, November 24, at 3:00 p.m. (location TBA), where you will learn to make your own fairy house. This two hour session is $60 and includes all supplies. Please register by November 15.

A create your own macramé wall hanging class will be held on Sunday, November 17 at the Library boardroom at 2:00 p.m. The cost for this class is $40 and you must be registered by November 3.

ARRD will be holding a Red Cross Stay Safe class in Pierson on October 5, with exact location to be announced. Real-world scenarios often call on children to respond to challenges. The Stay Safe! program teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills, while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve his or her own safety. Whether in their community or on their own, this group will be given better tools to Stay Safe in a variety of different situations. The cost for this course is $85 per student and students are asked to bring a bag lunch, notebook and pen. The course will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Please register your child by September 28 with ARRD.

ARDR and Two Borders Basketball are excited to offer open run basketball starting September 15 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. weekly on Sunday’s for boys and girls ages 13 and up.
