Elon Musk announced Thursday that X will remove all heuristic-based algorithms and switch to a fully AI-driven recommendation system powered by Grok within the next four to six weeks.
AI Will Handle 100 Million Posts Every Day
Grok will process more than 100 million posts and videos every day to connect users with content customized to their personal interests. Unlike conventional algorithms that use fixed rules and manual adjustments, the AI system will adapt dynamically to user behavior and real-time engagement to provide personalized recommendations. “The X recommendation system is changing very quickly. We plan to remove all heuristics within four to six weeks,” Musk wrote in a post. “Grok will effectively read over 100 million posts and watch every video each day to connect users with the content they are most likely to enjoy.” The update is aimed at addressing what Musk referred to as the “new user or small account problem,” where high-quality content from smaller creators often doesn’t reach a wider audience. By evaluating posts as a whole instead of relying on fixed rules, Grok seeks to make sure that engaging content gets noticed, no matter how many followers the creator has.

Dialogue-Based Feed Management
Users will have unprecedented control over their feeds by interacting with Grok using natural language. “We will also add the option to adjust your feed temporarily or permanently simply by asking Grok,” Musk explained. The move fits Musk’s wider goal of applying AI across his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. Grok, created by Musk’s xAI venture, was launched earlier this year as a conversational assistant for X Premium users and now has 64 million monthly users. Along with the AI update, Musk spoke about X’s creator payment system, admitting that the platform has been “underpaying and not distributing payments accurately enough” compared to YouTube.
