“F1: The Movie” is expected to arrive on the small screen around the holiday season, as it prepares to make its global streaming debut on Apple TV on December 12. The sports drama, which stars Brad Pitt as a former Formula One driver who is past his prime, will be available for viewers worldwide, offering a high-speed story that captures both the intensity of racing and the challenges faced by a comeback athlete.
F1” premiered in theaters in June and earned an impressive $629 million worldwide, which made it both the highest-grossing film of Brad Pitt’s career and the most successful title produced by Apple Original Films. It is also one of only six movies in 2025 that have surpassed the $600 million milestone. The film, which is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who is known for “Top Gun: Maverick,” follows Pitt’s character as he comes out of retirement to mentor a rookie driver and rescue a struggling team. Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, and Tobias Menzies appear alongside Pitt, while the production team includes real-life Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton, who serves as one of the producers.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer Made A Statement
“It has been exciting to watch audiences around the world respond so positively to ‘F1 The Movie’ in theaters,” said producer Jerry Bruckheimer. “We are incredibly eager to share this thrilling and cinematic experience with even more fans through the unmatched global reach that Apple TV provides. Working with Apple and Formula 1 has been a remarkable experience that has allowed us to bring this story to life, and we are proud that viewers from every part of the world will be able to feel the intense action and deep passion that define ‘F1.’”
An Impressive $439 Million In Ticket Sales!
After Apple experienced several commercial disappointments, which included titles such as “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Napoleon,” the widely praised success of “F1” has been viewed as a positive turning point for the studio, which is still building its theatrical presence. The movie, which had a production budget of $250 million, performed strongly at the box office because it benefited from enthusiastic word-of-mouth, premium viewing formats such as Imax and Dolby, and a strong international audience, which contributed an impressive $439 million in ticket sales.
In his review for Variety, chief film critic Owen Gleiberman praised the action-packed adventure and explained that there is a certain type of summer film that feels energetic and fully prepared to impress, which is powered by style, talent, star presence, and an irresistible subject. He added that such a movie can make the audience feel excited almost immediately, even before the story truly begins. According to Gleiberman, “F1” fits perfectly into that category of films.
